Last week, football coaches at Alabama and Auburn University were commended by the Human Rights Campaign. Both coaches stated recently that gay athletes are welcome on their respective teams. University of Alabama Coach Nick Saban said he would sign a recruit regardless of sexual orientation. Saban's comments follow Auburn University Coach Gus Malzhan's similar statements made earlier this year. Like all athletes in all sports, they should be judged by how well they perform. It's nice to see Coaches like Malzhan and Saban give all athletes a fair shot at success. It's a true testament to their character and their leadership skills as coaches. In February, Michael Sam, defensive end for the University of Missouri and SEC Defensive player of the year made history as the first gay division one college football player to announce his orientation. Earlier this month, he signed a contract with the St. Louis Rams. The game of football is tough. It's good to see positive changes in the game so many of us enjoy. I'm Vanessa Oubre that's "My Take."
