HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

An unlikely friendship is helping a homeless veteran finally have a place to call home.

Melea Hames is raising money to turn her garage into a home for Johnny Lindley. They first met when Hames was handing out food at Tent City.

Lindley has several health problems and is in and out of the hospital frequently. Hames is in the process of raising funds so she can provide her friend with a place to call home.

Lindley said there is one thing he is looking forward to most – having what he calls a "normal life" again.

"What inspires me is the love of Christ within me," said Hames about her effort. "It's not Melea Hames', it's His love that flows out of me."

Donations for Hames' project are accepted through crowdfunding site Fundly, which also lets you be a "supporter" for the cause by sharing their story through social media.
