Man accused of torching neighbor's house

RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Russellville man is in jail, accused of trying to burn down his neighbors' house.

Officers arrested Jeffrey Baker Friday morning.

Police said Baker got into an argument with his neighbors on Lauderdale Street, then tried to set their home on fire. It happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday night. The neighbors saw the fire and put it out before firefighters got there.

Police said Baker used foam from couch cushions to start the fire on the side of the home. They said the neighbors were able to put out the flames before the fire department arrived.

Four kids and four adults were in the house at the time of the fire.

Baker was charged with eight counts of attempted murder and one count of arson. He is being held on a $750,000 bond.

    A ground search ensued that lasted about four hours and covered approximately six miles, ending a few hundred yards east of Hays Mill Road where the suspects were caught in a hunting stand/shoot house.
