HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Better Business Bureau is warning about a wave of bogus emails floating around that could cost you. Not only can these emails trick you they can also mess up your computer.

The BBB said it was able to take down the site that was behind this recent scam. The scam targeted consumers and business owners.

The email claimed someone had filed a consumer complaint on you or your business with the New York City BBB. Inside the emails, they included a link to a complaint response page. The link can download malware and a virus onto your computer.

BBB representatives said there is a sign to look for when emails come directly from them.

"If a business in our area gets a complaint from the BBB North Alabama it does have the consumer's name, who has filed the complaint and the details in that email about the complaint so they would be able to read it," said Vice President of BBB North Alabama Belinda McCormick.

If you do get an email like this, the BBB wants you to forward it to them. For more information on how to contact the BBB click here - http://go.bbb.org/1oBOclR
