FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Two of the nation's largest poultry producers, Tyson Foods and Pilgrim's Pride, have entered bids to buy Hillshire Brands.

As of right now, talks have not reached a local level that would impact the closure of Hillshire's Florence facility.

Nearly 1,100 people will be out of a job when the Florence plant closes at the end of the year. The first wave of layoffs is set to begin June 6.

Financial advisors for both Tyson and Pilgrim's Pride are reviewing both proposals. Neither company has mentioned specific plans to bring jobs to the Shoals should any bid succeed.
