HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

NASA engineers spent Thursday working on the next generation of rockets.

Workers at Marshall Space Flight Center are testing a small version of the Space Launch System (SLS) vehicle.

The model is five percent of the size of the actual vehicle. Engineers will use the model to determine how sound waves will affect the structure on the launch pad once it is ignited.

The first test flight for the full-size rocket is scheduled for 2017.
