LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A judicial system in the Tennessee Valley is moving out of the county courthouse as workers move in to make renovations.

Limestone County court will be held in a temporary building for an estimated year and a half.

District Attorney Brian Jones said they think they will be able to process cases faster because they will actually have more room in the temporary courthouse than they currently have.

Workers will be creating much-needed space in the Limestone County Courthouse. They currently have four judges and only two courtrooms. Of those, only one is large.

In the temporary courthouse on South Jefferson Street, there will be four courtrooms, allowing each judge to hear cases at the same time. The DA's office is also moving out of the courthouse.

Jones said they took a hit after the April 28 storm caused damage to their roof, but said they are on track. He said he is looking forward to moving cases along with fewer delays because of available space.

"We've gone from two courtrooms to the temporary courthouse's four," Jones said. "We do not expect delays in trials due to courtroom space. We're pretty excited about this. We're going to be down there. We're going to have a lot more room to work."

The DA said the cost for his temporary office comes from money seized from drug dealers, with labor done by jail inmates.

Court will be in session from the temporary courthouse starting June 3.
