JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management is suing a Jackson County man for operating an illegal solid waste dump.

In the suit, filed Friday, the ADEM claims the man was ordered to cease operations, but a further review found he is still not in compliance.

According to the complaint, ADEM officials said they went to Terry Scott's property off Highway 75 in March 2013 and found existence of an illegal dump. Officials said it included household waste, rubbish, scrap tires, and construction waste.

Days later, Scott was issued a violation notice. In August 2013, a second inspection was performed, and ADEM officials said the dump had grown larger in size.

The complaint says Scott was assessed a penalty of some $13,000.

Attempts to reach Scott for comment were unsuccessful. A hearing date has not been set.
