FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Police are looking for a gunman following an overnight shooting.

It happened after midnight at a home on Sunnyside Street in Florence. Police believe it was an isolated incident at the victim was possibly targeted.

Investigators returned to the scene Tuesday collecting evidence, trying to piece together exactly what happened.

The victim claims someone kicked in his back door, and when he tried escaping through the front door, he was shot in the back. Police said the victim stayed in the area and went back inside the home, grabbed a shotgun and started shooting back.

Investigators said a bullet hit a window at a nearby home. They said that no one inside the home was hurt.

"It's bad for everybody in the neighborhood," said Cliff Billingsley with Florence Police. "These people aren't aware they can take somebody's life that is not involved in the crime and it is very dangerous."

Investigators are looking for a dark-colored SUV that may have bullet holes. If you have any information on the shooting, you are asked to call the Florence Police Department.
