HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Friday was day two of Huntsville City Schools' federal court battle for approval of their controversial rezoning plan.

The Department of Justice says it doesn't create enough diversity while Huntsville City says it expands diversity at most of their schools.

Friday's testimony was a little different than Thursday's. The turnout for Friday was not as big.

Testimony on Friday started with critical remarks from a member of the Johnson High School PTA and ended with both the DOJ and the district's firms that help create each rezoning plan.

Michelle Watkins testified she left a community conversation during the rezoning talk with concerns about NOrth Huntsville high school students not having the same access to classes South Huntsville high school students do. Those included engineering classes.

Watkins testified she's also made the decision to send her two grandchildren to private schools instead of the failing elementary school they're zoned for in North Huntsville.

Cathy McNeal raised her hand and spoke up in the courtroom when she had the chance. She is in favor of the Huntsville City School plan, and has been in education for forty years.

"Being that long an educator, this is the first time I have had three years where there is equality in resources and curriculum across the board," said McNeal. She said Wardynski is making a change, and his plan should be backed. "The growth has been outstanding since the three years he's been here."

Both experts that created each side's rezoning plan talked a lot of logistics. Huntsville has concerns specifically about Monte Sano.
