SECTION, AL (WAFF) -

More charges have been brought against a Section High School football coach charged Tuesday with driving under the influence.

Joey Kirby now faces a charge of resisting arrest in connection with his other charges of DUI, possession of an open container, and reckless driving. Troopers said he was stopped after doing 91 in a 55 mph zone and found an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. Kirby has since been released from the Jackson County Jail on a $9,500 bond.

He serves as a teacher and football coach at Section High. Some in the community find the arrest disturbing.

"That's no good example for the girls, the kids, and all," said resident James Coffman.

"Should he remain the football coach - personal opinion, probably not," added parent Paige Fannon. "But I don't know what they're going to do. I mean, I have kids in the school and I would hope that they don't have to be around that because I don't want them around it. But we'll have to wait and see what they do."

Jackson County Schools Superintendent Kenneth Harding met with Kirby Thursday. Harding said in his conversations with the coach, he was very remorseful about what happened and is learning a hard lesson.

Harding decided to give Kirby another chance. It is a decision that some residents disagree with.

"I think that's about the worst thing that you can do to a school, is have a coach that's supposed to be setting examples doing that," said Kay Hembree.

Kirby is due in court July 25.
