TANNER, AL (WAFF) -

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission discussed safety performance at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Wednesday afternoon.

The meeting was held at Calhoun Community College in Tanner. Officials said the Tennessee Valley Authority has improved the performance at Browns Ferry.

They said there is an increase in safety and awareness of the importance of safety. Officials said the employees are willing to raise concerns and work to get problems fixed.

"They've also had significant improvements in equipment performance," noted NRC member Jonathan Bartley. "Equipment performance is some of what's got them where they are now. Equipment has been improving much better because they've been doing better maintenance on the equipment to keep it running."

Bartley said they have three inspectors at the Browns Ferry site who perform day-to-day inspections.
