ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Athens police arrested a woman accused of talking her way into receiving two cell phones from a store employee by claiming the carrier authorized the transaction.

Police said Tiffany Harris went to the Athens T-Mobile store and told the clerk she had purchased two phones online which were never delivered. Harris provided a statement showing the phones had been charged to her account.

Harris told management she had talked with T-Mobile customer service, and they told her to go to the store to pick up the phones. Police said around that time, a person called identifying themselves as a T-Mobile representative authorizing the manager to give the phones to the woman.

The manager declined to give Harris the phones until he could talk to someone about the situation. A short time later, the manager received an email from what he thought was the customer service department authorizing him to release the phones to Harris.

Harris was given the two phones, valued at just over $1,400.

Later in the day, the manager determined through supervisors that the incident was a theft.

Investigators obtained a warrant for Harris, who was arrested in Montgomery. She was charged with theft by deception in the second degree. She was taken to the Limestone County Jail.
