HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

One of the girls injured in a crash that killed a 5-year-old boy in front of Hampton Cove Elementary last week is showing improvement, according to friends of the family.

Sarah Brown is in the ICU in Birmingham. A friend updated a website that was set up for the Brown family, saying Sarah is off of the ventilator and is breathing on her own.

Another child, Rebekah, has been in the ICU at Huntsville Hospital since the wreck on May 12. She is still on a ventilator, according to the update.

The girls' brother, Micah, was killed in the crash when the SUV they were in collided with an 18-wheeler on Old Highway 431.

The children's mother, Ryann Brown, who was driving at the time of the wreck, was treated and later released from Huntsville Hospital. Another child, Noelle Brown, suffered minor injuries.

The children's father and two other siblings were not involved in the wreck. According to emergency workers, the driver of the 18-wheeler was not transported to the hospital.

The family is asking for prayers as their daughters remain in intensive care. A fund has been set up to help the Brown family with medical costs. So far, they have raised more than $88,000 and their goal is $100,000.
