MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Governor Robert Bentley awarded a grant to Madison County to help reduce domestic violence. The grant is in the amount of $106,875.

According to Gov. Bentley's office, the funds will support a team made up of officials from the district attorney's office, the sheriff's office and the circuit clerk. The funds will help the team respond to domestic violence calls, aid in the prosecution of offenders, and help victims get protection orders.

"Domestic violence can cause great harm to both families and communities," said Gov. Bentley in the announcement released Wednesday. "I commend the staff and volunteers of this unit for helping victims and bringing abusers to justice."

The funds were made available to the state of Alabama by the U.S. Department of Justice.
