HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Many teenagers look forward to the carefree months of summer, but this time of year is also the deadliest for teen drivers and their passengers.

According to AAA, 7 of the 10 deadliest days on the road for teen drivers and their passengers occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

AAA found that over 7,300 teenagers died in crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day in a 5-year period between 2005-2009. On average, 422 teens died in crashes in summer months compared to 363 during non-summer months.

One reason for crashes is the fact that teens are out of school and staying out late. The chance of fatal crash nearly doubles for teens when they are driving late at night.
