TN woman finds mystery figure inside broken garden gnome

Heather Andrews Heather Andrews
LYNNVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

When a Lynnville, TN, woman dropped her garden gnome on the sidewalk and it broke, what she discovered inside is now front-page news and the talk of the town in Giles County.

Heather Andrews has a friend who always gives her garden gnomes. It's a gag between them, but this time the gnome was carrying a gag of its own.

"My friend opened the door, and it dropped and fell. I went to pick up the pieces and noticed something inside it," Andrews said.

There appears to be a statue inside the gnome that was formed at the time of the making of the gnome. It's fused to the top and to the bottom.

"I think the face has really intricate detail and someone spent a lot of time on the face. The anatomy on the body looks feminine to me, but I don't know. I am just biased to it, I guess," Andrews said.

Some people say it appears to be the head of Jesus on a woman's body, or maybe it's an angel.

"I just want to know where it came from, why they put it there," Andrews said. "I live in a small town, so a lot of my friends have seen it."

Our investigation, which involved looking at the sticker on the gnome's foot, reveals it came from Target. Andrews went a step further and broke open all of her garden gnomes. Unfortunately, there were no more surprises.

"A lot of people are scared of it - just creeped out by it. We've adopted him and named him Pete," Andrews said.

Pete now has a Facebook fan page that is gaining in popularity for his little mystery. Who would go to the trouble of creating a statue that, barring catastrophe, no one would ever see?

"A lot of people have told me that gnomes represent guardians of treasure, and maybe that's the treasure inside him," Andrews said.
