GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The new arts and entertainment district in the Marshall County town of Guntersville is getting good reviews following a 90-day update at Monday night's city council meeting.

It was a cold start for the district, which officially opened in January. The first major event was held there over the weekend with bands playing throughout the day and night, and no major problems were reported.

New signs are up in Downtown Guntersville, marking where the arts and entertainment district begins and ends. There were limited activities during the 90-day review period due to the number of winter weather events in that time.

City officials anticipated the activities would increase with the warmer temperatures. Mayor Leigh Dollar said it's been financially good for the city, noting an increase in liquor taxes.

"The event this weekend was fabulous," said Dollar. "There were lots of people, the police had no issues. They were patrolling and they had absolutely no issues whatsoever."

The mayor said there is some tweaking left to do, as they consider going to a single cup color for alcoholic beverages to provide better ordinance enforcement.
