HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Two Huntsville community colleges will announce new scholarship opportunities for high school students.

Calhoun Community College and Drake State will announce specifics of a new dual enrollment scholarship program. The Alabama legislature set aside $5 million for the program, which will allow eligible high school students to get college and high school credit at the same time for courses geared towards workforce training.

Schools across Alabama said this will help the state in the future. "This enables them to graduate from high school with either a short term or long term certificate along the way to earning a 2-year associates degree," said Terry Waters, Director of Workforce and Economic Development. "This will enable them to complete their education, get into the workforce sooner."

A bill that passed the legislature this year will allow businesses and individuals to donate money for these scholarships and to receive tax credits for up to 50% of the donation.
