MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

The City of Madison will have another brand-new pre-Kindergarten building when school starts up in the fall.

Work began Monday on the new facility down the street from Rainbow Elementary. The city bought an old day care for about $837,000 in December – half the appraised value – and is investing another $621,000 into renovations.

It will be one of just a handful of stand-alone pre-K schools in the state, but it will share many services with Rainbow.

City leaders said they believe the school will be ready by August.
