MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama goes to vote in the primary election in two weeks. In Marshall County, thousands of voters find themselves with new polling locations, and for some who have gone decades voting at the same location, it is not welcome news.

Don Milligan, Chairman with the Board of Registrars said last year's redistricting plays a big role in the change, as well as following state law requiring district lines be made along natural barriers such as roads and waterways.

Phone lines at the Marshall County Board of Registrars have been quite busy since the voter lists were published last week in the local newspaper. Residents are seeing they are not listed to vote where they normally do.

Milligan said polling locations are changing for more than 20,000 of the 48,000 registered voters, and notices will soon be sent out individually to let voters know where they are to cast their ballots.

Sharon Price looked in the local paper this weekend, only to find her location had moved from near Guntersville, where she works, to Arab.

"It's not just going to be ‘pull in my voting place, say hi, show my ID, vote, and go home,'" said Price. "I'm going to have to go to Arab. I'm not for certain I know where the community center is. I don't know which door you use. I'm not familiar with the layout there. It's going to be a chore."

Milligan expects those notices to go out within the next week. He said anyone still unsure where they are supposed to vote can contact the Board of Registrars Office. The number to call is (256)571-7740.
