To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Decatur Police have arrested one man and plan to make more arrests after a search allegedly yielded 28 grams of cocaine.

According to the Decatur Police Department, their organized crime unit received complaints of large amounts of illegal drugs being sold from 1208 Brookline Avenue apartment 6. Investigators began an investigation and obtained a search warrant for the residence.

The warrant was executed on Thursday, during which officers positioned at the rear of the residence said they saw the subjects run out the back door. Officials said the suspects ran into an adjacent apartment.

Officers pursued and detained the suspects. One of them was identified as Richard Mitchell. Investigators said they searched the residence and found an excess of 28 grams of cocaine, along with a large amount of US currency.

Investigators said they also found quantities of prescriptions pills, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia used with the packaging and sale of illegal drugs.

Mitchell was arrested for trafficking in cocaine, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, criminal trespass, and resisting arrest. Mitchell was transported to Decatur City Jail, then later transferred to Morgan County Jail.

He had previously turned himself in to authorities in February following a shooting in Decatur. The search for Mitchell shortly after the incident had caused a nearby elementary school to take security precautions.

Mitchell is being held with a $504,500 bond. The investigation is ongoing, and the Decatur Police Department said future arrests will be made.
