Family appeals for leads in mother, son's murder

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Relatives cried, hugged and tried to get over the shock on Harrison's Nook. Gunmen came to the door of 64-year-old Mary Chambers and her 41-year-old son Mondray Chambers and opened fire.

They struck and killed both and endangered a house full of people, including a 2-year-old and 4-year-old.

"It's a senseless crime," said Hazlehurst Police chief Steve Land. "It threatened so many people, just a disregard for life."

GBI agents believe Mondray was the target and that the attack was drug related. The deaths leave family members distraught and asking for answers.

"There are two people laying today that won't come back to us," said Elizabeth Hood, Mary's sister. "If anybody knows anything, they need to come forward and say what they know."

Anyone with information can contact the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Douglas office at 912-389-4103 or Hazlehurst Police at 912-375-6688.
