Prosecutors hand over evidence in Darren Sharper rape case

Former New Orleans Saints player Darren Sharper will have to wait a little longer to find out if he will have to go to trial on allegations he raped and drugged two women.

According to the LA Times, Sharper's next court date is set for June 10th.

In a Los Angeles court Friday, prosecutors handed over 10 cd's of evidence to Sharper's attorneys.

Sharper's attorney, Blair Berk, filed legal documents ahead of the hearing.

Berk wants the judge to order the prosecution in Los Angeles and other jurisdictions to turn over key evidence that she believes would be favorable to Sharper.

"It's a standard discovery motion asking for exculpatory evidence meaning anything that's beneficial to me, you as the prosecutor have a duty to give to me," said FOX 8 legal anaylst Joe Raspanti.

Raspanti points out the law allows for the testimony of alleged victims from other jurisdictions to be admitted into evidence if it's deemed to show a pattern of behavior.

Meantime, Ssharper will not face sexual assault charges in Miami.

Prosecutors say they had no physical evidence and claim the alleged victims made inconsistent statements.

Besides the case in California, Sharper is also currently under investigation in Arizona, Nevada and here in New Orleans.
