TENAHA, TX (KTRE) -

After working for the City of Tenaha for more than 30 years, Doyce Bailey was let go from her position of City Secretary on Monday. The reason as of now is unclear because neither side would go on the record.

It was made evident at the city council meeting that the matter has appeared to divide the city. To defuse the situation, a special council meeting was called Thursday evening. Tenaha resident Cody Barton said he just wanted some answers.

"I think there are laws and rules that you have to follow when you are firing somebody. I would like to find out the reasons behind him firing her," Barton said.

However, no answers were given. Before the meeting could even start, it was pointed out that the paperwork filed for the special council meeting was invalid. The agenda did not include the person being discussed and there was no signature on it which then made the meeting illegal. The meeting has since been rescheduled for Monday evening. Bennie Johnson, Mayor Johnson's mom, said there is more to the story than we know.

"I don't know the reason why he fired her only he and she know why," Bennie said.

During the gathering the mayor claimed it was all a misunderstanding and it was something that happened in the heat of the moment.

"She can come back to work tomorrow (Friday) if she likes. I offered Ms. Bailey her job back that day," Orinthia said.
