LOVELADY, TX (KTRE) -

It's been one month since an EF-1 tornado hit the town of Lovelady in Houston County. The survivors are still reminded of it every day.

"[My son] told me the trailer was in pieces," Esther Ramirez said. "I said, ‘I can't believe it.' There were no clouds or nothing.'"

"I get a little anxious when the wind starts blowing," Tonia Cowger said.

The storm destroyed the homes of Cowger and Ramirez. Both women say they lost everything, except for their lives. Cowger escaped with only a gash on her leg.

"It's doing pretty good," Cowger said. "It's healing well."

Ramirez felt like her home was strong enough to handle the storm.

"I lived in that trailer like I lived in a brick house, because it was mine," Ramirez said.

At the lot, the homes were on little is left. The only thing left of Cowger's house is the twisted frame it used to sit on. However, she said it doesn't matter to her because a home is more than a house.

"It makes you appreciate life better," Cowger said. "All of my kids are always there. I tried to raise them to where they would take care of each other if something happened, and when anything goes down, they are always there for each other."

The two women have not seen each other since the storm but are looking forward to Sunday, when they will see each other again.

They hope the meeting will ease fears they both have.

On Sunday, the town will be hosting a fundraiser. They will be selling barbeque plates for $10. There will also be an auction including items donated by State Representative Trent Ashby, Senator Robert Nichols, and Governor Rick Perry.

The event is Sunday May 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the old gym on State Highway 19.
