BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Some good news for those still trying to put their lives back together after April's stormy weather. You may qualify for a state income tax filing extension.

Individuals and businesses in Baldwin, Blount, Dekalb, Etowah, Jefferson, Lee, Limestone, Mobile and Tuscaloosa counties have until October 15 of this year to file certain Alabama tax returns that have a due date between April 28 and October 15 of this year.

Late filing and payment penalties will be waived upon request for those affected.

Relief for other taxes will be handled on a case by case basis.

Write in red ink "April 2014 storms" on any state paper return/report that qualifies. If you have questions about filing an electronic return contact the Alabama Department of Revenue at 334-242=1170 and get instructions from the appropriate office.
