NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A cat is recovering from surgery after being shot. Someone found the 7-month-old orange tabby Monday near the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and took him to Nashville Cat Rescue.

X-rays confirmed he'd been shot in both front legs.

The veterinarian at the rescue group sent the cat to Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners in Brentwood, where they performed surgery to repair the front right leg.

The left leg had to be amputated due to the severe damage from the gunshot.

Rescuers named the cat Timmy, and they say he needed a blood transfusion and some pain medication but is expected to make a full recovery.

"They talk about cats having nine lives for a reason. He probably blew through eight of them. But, you know, kittens are amazing creatures. It just takes some work to get them where they need to be, and they can have amazing lives," said Dr. Katherine Smith, with Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners. "He had surgery yesterday. Even this morning, I picked him up and he was head-butting me. Yesterday, when he had a large bandage on before surgery, he had his little paws outstretched, kneading and making biscuits. He's a very sweet little boy."

Smith said she'd like to think Timmy was shot by accident, but given that he was hit twice, she believes it was probably intentional.
