ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Blue Springs Elementary students took time out Monday to create thank-you notes to the crews who worked hard to restore power and clean up damage left behind from the April 28 storms.

Blue Springs was one of two schools left without power in the days following the storms that hit Limestone County and Athens. 16,000 people were initially left without power.

Crews from Florence, Decatur, Cullman, Russellville, Tuskegee, Troy, Guntersville, Lawrenceburg TN, Tullahoma TN, Scottsboro, Benton County TN and Huntsville assisted Athens Utilities in the repair work.

All the thank-you cards made by students are on display at Athens Utilities. A utility spokesperson said they shared the thanks with the 12 crews from Alabama and Tennessee that assisted in restoring power.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
