Birmingham police say an officer shot and killed a security guard in a dispute between two security officers outside a nightclub.
Authorities say an on-duty security guard got into a dispute with an off-duty guard in the parking lot of the Foxx Trapp around 3:45 a.m. Saturday.
Birmingham police said in a statement that as the two guards fought, the on-duty officer drew his weapon and began shooting the off-duty officer.
Police say a Birmingham police officer working an extra job at the club confronted the on-duty guard and ordered him to drop his weapon. Police said the security officer failed to comply with the command, and the Birmingham police officer shot the security officer several times.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is expected to investigate the shooting.
