HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville police are trying to figure out who shot a man Saturday morning.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. at an apartment on the 4400 block of Torrance Drive. The victim told police a man knocked on his door, and when he cracked the door to see who was there, the offender tried to force his way inside.

Police said while the victim was trying to shut the door, the intruder pulled a handgun, fired through the door and hit the man's left hand. Officers said the victim's girlfriend shot her handgun at the offender through a bedroom window, but police don't know if he was hit.

A woman in the area told police she was in her apartment went gunfire erupted next door and two bullets entered her home through the common wall of the adjoining apartment.

Authorities said the offender fled the area. The man's injuries were reportedly not life-threatening. This investigation is ongoing.
