PHIL CAMPBELL, AL (WAFF) -

A Phil Campbell landmark was destroyed by fire on Thursday night.

The Chat 'N Chew restaurant went up in flames around 10:15 p.m.

Multiple fire departments were called in. Units from Russellville, Phil Campbell, Blue Springs, Bear Creek, East Franklin and Frogs Pond responded. Officials said when they got on the scene, flames could be seen shooting through the roof.

The 50-year-old building was gutted on the inside. It was one of just two restaurants in Phil Campbell.

"It's cherished by the community here, so it's very, very heartbreaking," said owner Venita Armstrong.

Armstrong said community members have already asked her to rebuild, and she said that's what they plan on doing. All day long, people stopped by to take a look at the remains of their beloved diner.

No one was injured in the fire. Investigators are still working to determine the cause.
