HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville city leaders approved a water sharing agreement between Huntsville Utilities and Madison County.

The 30-year agreement will allow the county to have better access to clean drinking water for its customers at a better price. City officials said it will help stabilize rates for city customers.

"This was not something where either place was in any kind of emergency," said Huntsville Utilitiies CEO Jay Stowe. "This is good planning and good cooperation between two entities that have the same ideas and mission."

Stowe said the agreement will give Huntsville Utilities the knowledge of what they need to plan for the future.
