JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A minister charged with rape and sodomy of a 13-year-old girl has been arrested again for sex abuse after a second teen accuser came forward, police confirm.

Tyrone Banks, 58, of Pleasant Grove, was arrested on May 2 for rape and sodomy and bonded out on May 4.

Pleasant Grove police said on May 7 that Banks was arrested again for first degree sexual abuse after another female teen came forward. Investigators are limited in what they can say about the second case, but they did say the alleged incident happened three years ago.

Pleasant Grove Detective Danny Reid said he believes the first report accusing Banks of rape played a big role in the second victim coming forward.

"I think the charge Jefferson County Sheriff's officials put on him last Friday was a prime reason she came forward this weekend and we're hoping if there are other victims they will come forward to their local law enforcement," Reid said.

Since the second victim came forward, Reid said Wednesday that even more victims are coming forward. He is asking any other victims to go to their local law enforcement agency. He said all victim information would be kept strictly confidential.

Banks was initially accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl on April 12. Authorities said he was friends with the girl's mother and was watching the girl while her mom was at an event that evening.

Deputies say Banks took the girl to a church near Hueytown where he is a minister and sexually assaulted her in the church kitchen.

The girl reported the assault to her mother, who reported it to Pleasant Grove Police on April 13. The police department handed the investigation over to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office after learning that the church where the alleged assault happened was outside of their jurisdiction.

Banks was charged with rape by forcible compulsion and first degree sodomy in the case involving the 13-year-old victim.

Authorities have not released the name of the church where the April 12 assault allegedly occurred.

He is being held on no bond in the Jefferson County Jail. Officials say it's very likely he will face more charges.

If there are more victims, Sgt. Reid asks them to give him a call at 205-744-1735 or call their local law enforcement agency.
