TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

DPS officials have confirmed that all lanes have reopened on northbound I-19 at Irvington after a semi fire.

Tucson Fire Department arrived on the scene just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night. TFD says the driver of the semi hit a mattress on the freeway. The driver pulled over to check out the truck and noticed the trailer catching on fire near the front tires of the trailer, due to the wedged mattress.

When crews arrived, the truck was engulfed in flames, and the fire was spreading to the back of the semi-truck.  Crews pulled hose lines off the engine to put out the flames.  Most of the engines on scene carried 750 gallons of water.  A water truck arrived, carrying 2,500 gallons and helped put out the fire.

DPS detoured traffic off of the freeway.

The driver of the truck is expected to be ok. The truck was hauling a load of produce which was considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire, according to TFD, was the wedged mattress the driver could not avoid hitting on the interstate.
