A main break sent water rushing in an area along Hurricane Road Saturday night.
(WMC) - One person was found dead inside a home in the Colonial Hills area in Southaven, Miss. In addition, an SUV was reported missing from the residence.
Southaven Police Chief Tom Long says officers stopped by the house to perform a welfare check on 72-year-old Johnny Moore. That is when they found him dead inside.
"We have found a subject that is deceased," said Long. "We're investigating. Right now it appears to be a suspicious death."
Moore reportedly volunteered at Southaven Police Department, a nursing home, and the food bank.
Neighbors are shocked to hear about Moore's death.
"He was such a nice fellow," said Debra Wilson. "I just couldn't believe someone would do that to him."
Southaven police are not saying how Moore died, but they were called to the home by neighbors who had not seen him in a while.
The missing SUV is a red 2001 GMC Jimmy with Mississippi tag number DCG 245. Anyone with information should call DeSoto County Crime Stoppers at 662-429-8477.
