Chagrin Falls man indicted for food stamps fraud

CHAGRIN FALLS, OH (WOIO) -

A Chagrin Falls man was indicted today by the Geauga County Grand Jury for food stamp fraud.

John P Konst, 43, is accused of collecting food stamps from May 2012 till January 2014, while claiming little to no income.

An investigation by the Geauga County Job and Family Services revealed that Konst made $144,000 from May 2012 to November of 2014. He also took some vacations, including Disney World, and account records showed numerous withdrawals from ATMs at the Horseshoe Casino.

At the time, Konst was operating a limo service, known as Signature Limo, Inc.

In a statement, Geauga County Job and Family Services Director said, "Our agency is committed to seeking out fraud to insure that food stamp assistance is only given to those that truly need it."

According to Geauga County Prosecutor Jim Flaiz, Konst received over $10,000 in food assistance.

Illegal use of food stamps is a fourth degree felony, and if convicted, Konst could serve a max of 18 months in prison.

Konst is set to appear in court later this month for his arraignment.
