HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

An electrical worker was seriously injured when he fell nearly 20 feet from a utility pole on Cave Avenue off of Pulaski Pike.

Police said John Osborn, the owner of Osborn Electric, was on a ladder attached to the pole at the National Speleological Society when the pole snapped. Crews on the scene said the pole looked like it was rotted.

Property manager Mike Campbell said he was cutting the grass when he spotted Osborn on the ground. He said he wasn't sure how long Osborn had been there.

Emergency workers said if Campbell hadn't found Osborn when he did, he may not have survived.

"Somebody said something about being a hero," Campbell said. "I just done what I felt like I needed to do, and that's it. I'm glad I was here and able to do something."

Osborn was taken to Huntsville Hospital with serious injuries. A firefighter on-scene said the man didn't know who he was when paramedics arrived.

Osborne's condition was upgraded Tuesday afternoon, and he is expected to be okay.
