BIRMINGHAM, AL (Mississippi News Now/WBRC) -

A Jackson State bus caught fire while driving down a highway in Alabama.

This happened at I-20/59 Northbound at Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive, about 15 minutes west of Birmingham.

The Jackson State Baseball team was onboard the bus.

We are told that the bus was transporting the JSU baseball team to a game at Savannah State University scheduled for May 6.

According to JSU's website, the team will return to Jackson May 5 and the game has been cancelled.

School officials say that everyone got off the bus okay, and no one was injured.

JSU President Carolyn W. Meyers released a statement on JSU's website saying:

"We are relieved that everyone is safe. We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers. The university will conduct its own exhaustive investigation into this unfortunate incident."
