LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Limestone County school officials are projecting that at least 100 students from two schools impacted by an EF-3 tornado last week are homeless.

Superintendent Dr. Tom Sisk said teachers are working to contact more than 100 families of Blue Springs Elementary and Clements High School students.

At least 54 Clements High School students lost their homes in last Monday's tornado that hit Limestone County.

Monday, teachers focused on contacting the families of Blue Springs Elementary students.

The Lauderdale County School System is assisting Limestone County with their recovery efforts. They are providing plastic bins to store personal items.

Both Clements High School and Blue Springs Elementary are not in session because power is out at both campuses. About 1,400 people in Limestone County are still without power. Athens Utilities said 100 to 150 poles were damaged.

An account has been set up at Compass Bank to collect donations for the homeless students. You can go to any Compass location, Limestone County school, or the central office. Checks should be made payable to "Friends of Limestone County."

Meanwhile, people continue to try to help neighbors across the county. The county is asking individuals who want to donate supplies to contact the Limestone County United Way or made donations at the 7-Mile Post Road Church.

Church leaders said they are still in need of diapers, baby food and paper products. They said they do not need clothes, furniture or appliances at this time, as storm survivors are still working on securing places to live.

Madison County District 2 Commissioner Steve Haraway opened his office as a drop-off location for items that will be taken to Limestone County.

Crews continue to repair the damage along Highway 72. Traffic is down to one lane in each direction in the affected area. Drivers are urged to use caution when driving through the Coxey and Clements area.

The curfew that had been issued for the county last week has been officially lifted, per a notice from the sheriff's office.

Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency began touring damage sites in Athens. They will tour hard-hit areas among the county Tuesday. Remember, FEMA funds will be available for storm victims in Limestone County. Click here to learn how to apply.
