Four dead after Jonesboro, Ark. shooting

(WMC) - Four people are dead and four others are injured after a shooting in Jonesboro, Ark. on Saturday, May 3.

The survivors, including two young children, are in Memphis being treated for gunshot wounds. Police say it happened after a man went on a killing spree before taking his own life.

Investigators do not know why 40-year-old Porfirio Hernandez shot six people inside a home on Moore Road Saturday afternoon. Two people were pronounced dead, 38-year-old Crisanto Islas and 13-year-old Floza Davila. Two adult and two children, ages 8 and 10, were critically wounded.

Police say Hernandez then took a car from the Moore location and drove to Dalton Farmer Drive, where he shot and killed 31-year-old Richardo Lopez. Witnesses later spotted a car that fit the description of the suspects vehicle.

When officers arrived, they discovered Hernandez dead in the driver's seat from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

"We believe he is the individual out on County Road 642," said Jonesboro Police Sergeant Doug Formon.

Investigators still do not know what promoted the killings. They say Hernandez was recently released from a mental health treatment facility and do not know he got his hands on a gun.

Police believe Hernandez may have worked with one of the victims. They say he is not related to any of the victims but may have been a family friend.

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
