LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A feeding station in Limestone County will move locations Monday. Meanwhile, a disaster declaration for the county is expected to speed up the clean up process.

Limestone County Emergency Management officials said Sunday they would be relocating a feeding station from Blue Springs Elementary to Seven Mile Post Road Church (14435 Seven Mile Post Road, Athens). Beginning Monday May 5, meals will be served daily at the church at 7 a.m., 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily until further notice.

In addition, the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Organization will provide showers and laundry units on-site for storm victims and workers to utilize.

The disaster declaration means individuals and businesses can now apply for grants to assist with the costs associated with recovery.

Widespread damage means widespread debris throughout the area, but Limestone County officials asked folks to be patient with its removal. They also asked residents to put things like tree limbs and brush on the back side of ditches, away from the road. Construction materials and appliances are not eligible for removal.

Athens Utilities said Sunday 1,600 customers still didn't have their power restored. That's down from the 16,000 who lost power in the wake of Monday's storms. Fewer than 100 power poles remain in need of repair.

Limestone County School leaders said it could take days before Clements High School and Blue Springs Elementary students return to class. The district began contacting families to find out their well-being and if they've relocated.

Superintendent Dr. Tom Sisk said 54 Clements High School students were homeless, and 135 families were unreachable. Blue Springs Elementary numbers are not yet available.

Sisk said both schools will open 24 to 48 hours after power is restored. There is no timetable from the utility company on when that will happen. Both schools were damaged in the storm, but the buildings are structurally safe.
