HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A group of children got out to enjoy the weather by having their own 5K.

The Give it Back 5K Race pulled in local children to hit the pavement. The children were apart of Huntsville's Inner City Learning Center. The kids trained for months and raised money at the same time to benefit Madison County's Junior Special Olympics. Organizers said the race included many more lessons for them.

"It's a check that the kids get to write and they get to set a goal for themselves," said Kerry Coker of the Huntsville Inner City Learning Center. "To train for and complete a 5K is no small feat, and we get to do it in their neighborhood and their own backyard where they might not get to see a lot of 5K's or community events happen."

More than a hundred people showed up to cheer on the kids.
