DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The storms earlier in the week created a special problem for affected chicken farmer.

The storms destroyed one chicken house and damaged another at the Smith Farm near the DeKalb-Etowah County border. It left some 24,000 baby chickens, just 13 weeks old, running around without a home.

Karen Smith said while many died, they're saving the ones they can and putting them in the functioning house, but will be sending them somewhere else to raise due to overcrowding.
