HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville City Schools wants to make sure students receive a hot meal during the summer months.

The district will kick off its summer feeding program in June. Huntsville City Schools started the program last year.

More than 98,000 students got nutritious meals during last year's program. This year, officials said breakfast and lunch will be offered at six schools. Breakfast and dinner will be offered at two.

The sites offering hot breakfast and lunch are:

  • Chapman Elementary
  • Providence Elementary
  • Williams Elementary
  • Ridgecrest Elementary
  • James Dawson Elementary
  • Johnson High

Breakfast will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., with the exception of Johnson High, which will run from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Lunch at all sites will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The sites offering hot breakfast and dinner are:

  • MLK Elementary (Breakfast 8:30-9:30 a.m.; dinner 3-5 p.m.)
  • Westlawn Middle (Breakfast 7:30-8:30 a.m.; dinner 3-5 p.m.)

The only qualification for the program is that the child is 18 years of age or younger.

The City of Huntsville has agreed to allow students to ride the shuttle buses for free providing they are going to a summer feeding site and have a free bus pass.

Bus passes will be given out the last week of school and will be available at each feeding site.
