PAINT ROCK, AL (WAFF) -

A due-process hearing for a Jackson County school secretary facing termination may soon continue.

After recessing the previous meeting, the secretary filed suit, sending the parties involved into court Thursday. Paint Rock Secretary Lori Mullican left court after the judge approved a May 7 date to conclude her due-process hearing.

Mullican was placed on paid leave earlier this year, but school officials have not revealed why.

Court documents point to money as a possible issue, because they indicate a forensic accounting expert was used to testify against her – an expert Mullican claims is not qualified.

Mullican also claimed two people crucial for her defense would not have been available at her previous hearing, but the board was prepared to move forward anyway. The judge said any other issues would be taken up after the due-process hearing.

School officials are expected to produce documents to Mullican's attorney by Friday. The judge said if that does not happen, the hearing can be held in the next 10 days.
