16 displaced after fire at Huntsville apartment

Crews were called to the Westbrooke Apartments after 9 p.m. Tuesday. Crews were called to the Westbrooke Apartments after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Crews were called to the scene of an apartment fire in South Huntsville.

Firefighters were called to the Westbrooke Apartments off of Bob Wallace Avenue SW before 9 p.m. Tuesday. 

One person has been transported to the hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation. Emergency responders were giving aid to people at the scene.

Officials called it a "smoky fire" that originated from the second story. They also described the scene as "crowded," but the situation was under control.

Eight units comprising 16 people were displaced by the fire.

Investigators are in the initial stages of determining the cause, however a woman at the scene said a lit incense stick caught some bedding and caused the fire.
