HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Millions around the world are celebrating the sainthood of two Popes.

At the Vatican this weekend, Pope Francis declared his two predecessors, John XXIII and John Paul II, as saints. It is the first-ever canonization of two pontiffs at the same time.

At Pope John Paul II Catholic High School in Huntsville, officials have applied to change the school's name to Saint John Paul II. They will also hold several special events this week in honor of his canonization.

Students are excited about their namesake becoming a saint.

"He was always the Children's Pope," said student Dena Desroches. "We always admired him, and now he's a saint."
