WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Many people will be taking steps in Wilmington on Sunday to try to bring an end to violence against women.

The UN Walk to End Violence Against Women and Girls will take place at 1 p.m. at Shelter #4 at Hugh MacRae Park.

Studies show, 70 percent of women will be abused in their lifetime. Organizers hope, Sunday's walk will raise awareness about such a startling statistic and work to change it.

For many years, Yolanda Norwood, passionately chaired the annual event, she suddenly passed away a few months ago.

This year the walk will be held in her honor.

Norwood was also the president of the Wilmington Chapter of the Links.
