5k for the Fatherless connects kids and parents

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hundreds of feet pounded the pavement Saturday morning to raise funds and bring awareness to foster care adoptions.

The 5K for the Fatherless run to support the 200 million flowers organization was held in Ridgeland.

The non-profit Christian ministry helps connect children and parents through adoption and foster care.

The agency also offers services for mothers in crisis pregnancy.

Kids also participated in the one mile fun run.

"We just come alongside of them from a Christian perspective and help give them training and support that they wouldn't get otherwise if they're thinking about being a foster parent or adoptive parent for a kids from the child welfare service," said Rick Valore, 5k for the Fatherless.

Two hundred fifty runners participated in Saturday's event. Organizers said the 5k is building momentum because half were running for the first time.
